2017 Reconnaissance Track Workshops:

The Reconnaissance Track is designed for small businesses that have little or no experience in federal procurement and/or business ownership. These workshops offer a broad brush from experienced professionals on the aspects of creating a successful Veteran owned small business. Workshops include:

10:00AM-11:00AM What’s New for Veteran Businesses: While there are a myriad of resources and benefits available to assist Veterans with starting and growing their small businesses, there are an equal number of myths and misunderstandings. This workshop will feature representatives from the SBA, Department of Veterans Affairs, USDA (Veteran Farmer) and PilieroMazza PLLC to discuss "What's New" in Veteran resources and benefits such as the All Small Business Mentor-Protege program & SD/VOSB certification and verification; to dispel the myths and update the audience on new and future initiatives including Veteran Farmer programs and NDAA. This panel includes:

  • Craig Heilman (SBA Office of Veteran Business Development)
  • Jaime Wood (SBA/USDA)
  • Jaime Davenport (USDA)
  • Tom Leney (Department of Veterans Affairs OSDBU)
  • Jon Williams (PilieroMazza PLLC)

11:30AM-12:45PM Making the Most of the SBIR Program: As a set aside for small businesses, over $2.5B is available each year in SBIR/STTR funding from 11 participating federal agencies. This strategic funding provides critical financing for early stage, high risk research projects that have a strong commercial or federal acquisition pathway.  Our panel of experts will discuss low cost training and other support for Virginia's technology community to help facilitate successful participation in these programs.

  • Robert Brooke (Center for Innovation Technology)
  • Megan Connor (PilieroMazza PLLC)
  • Bruce Jette (Synovision Solutions)
  • Robyn Snyder (Lockheed Martin)
